Ernst Barlach‘S “Refugee” Was Created In 1920. In This Sculpture The Existential, Pressing Escape Movement Takes Three-Dimensional Shape. The Motif Of Speed Is Similar To Barlach’S “Avenger” (1914) Implemented In The Massive Physicality Of The Go-Ahead Refugee Figure. The Sculptural Shape Of The Escape Concept Promises Hope That Speaks From The Forward Directed Face. The Formal Blocky Unity Is Probably The Most Striking Feature Of Barlach’S Sculptural Art. The Replica On The Left Is Marked With The Signature Of The Artist.
