The Czech Title Can Be Translated With The Title “Father’S Portrait”. Gutfreund Has Dedicated A Memorial To His Father. He Worked As A Typesetter In The Social-Democratic Paper “Volksfreund”. Later The Paper Was Banned By The Nazis. The Cubist Relief Is Characterized By Sharp Edges, And Grotesque -Looking Depressions. The Relief Is Signed With “O. Gutfreund”.

The Czech Painter And Sculptor Otto Gutfreund Was Born In 1889 And Was One Of The Most Important Artists Of Czech Cubism. He Drowned In 1927 In Moldavia. Otto Gutfreund Was Of Jewish Origin. In Paris He Had First Contacts With Cubism, Which Influenced His Work Sustainably. In Paris He Studied Until 1910. In That Year He Returned To The Czech Republic And Was Founded In 1911 Along With Other Artists The Group Skupina. In 1913 He Exhibited At The First German Autumn Salon In Berlin. A Year Before His Death, He Was Appointed Professor Of Architectural Sculpture At The School Of Applied Arts In Prague.
